A Day on the Water Includes......

The Fundamentals

We will begin at my cabin on Big Creek and while we get to know each other, we will discuss  what fly fishing is, the gear used, the different types of flies and techniques.  Then we will begin basic casting instruction on the lawn  I will provide all the gear you will need, fly rods, reels, and flies, but  you are welcome to bring you own if you wish.
First Fishing Session

Once your basic casting form has been established we will move to the water of Big Creek.  Here we will continue to work on casting, including several different types of casts.  You will learn how to properly drift  and manage the line to entice strikes.  While on the water we will discuss fish behavior, feeding patterns and entomology (bugs).  There is a chance that you will catch fish during this session.
Grub and chat

Around lunch time we will go back to the cabin where I will cook lunch, typically burgers and hot dogs with chips and water or soda pop.  While eating we can discuss fishing, or just have a friendly conversation

Final fishing session

After lunch we will move to one or more of the private property locations on the St. Joe River.  Although there is no guarantee, this is when we will hopefully be able to catch and release fish.  We will continue the coaching about casting and all other aspects of fly fishing and if our luck is good, you will learn safe and proper catch and release handling of some of the beautiful westslope cutthroat trout that the St. Joe has to offer.
